The Relaxation Club’s origins stem from the initial conception of the Wellness Center. Back then, as the Back Rub Club, its entire focus was solely on back rubs. However, when the founding director of the Wellness Center left and current director Jordan Perry (all hail) was hired, the Back Rub Club suddenly became its own student-run entity. In its transition, the Back Rub Club’s name was changed to the Relaxation Club to make clear that, as its mission statement’s first sentence states, “we are a group of students who believe in the importance and power of healing touch.”
As the club is now reaching its 10th year of conceptual existence, the group is attempting to broaden its focus from solely giving back rubs into new fields of relaxation. Different DIY workshops such as plant pottings, eye pillows, and lavender wands are all encompassed within the group’s widening scope, so stay tuned for updates as the group continues!
The Relaxation Club’s weekly drop-in hours are open for anyone to come and get a back rub from one of the club members. All students in the group have completed at least one three-hour training session. Each fully clothed back rub lasts 15 minutes and is entirely relaxing.
Here are the club’s current drop-in hours, which are be expected to change soon:
- Mondays: 5 to 7
- Tuesdays: 4 to 7
- Wednesdays: Closed 😦
- Thursdays: 5 to 7
- Fridays: 4 to 8
