Spring Jam (is happening)

Hampshire College’s annual springtime concert and community event, Spring Jam, will hit campus this Saturday, April 30. Each year a planning committee of students comes together to make this event not only possible, but also enjoyable for the campus. Advertising for this year’s Spring Jam came at short notice. Thankfully, this does not indicate that Spring Jam will be anything other than jamming.

2016 marks the second year of a down-sized Spring Jam following campus criticism of the HYPE committee’s planning of Hampshire Halloween 2014, which resulted in the signers of HYPE at the time being placed on probation by FundCom. Previously a large concert and festival advertised beyond the college into the Pioneer Valley, Spring Jam is now consolidated to focus solely on the desires of the Hampshire community.

The lineup and activities for 2016’s Spring Jam are considerably larger in number than 2015’s humble assemblage. Performances will start at 2:00pm on the Library Lawn with one of Hampshire’s acapella performance groups, Gin & Tonics. Mainstage performances begin at 6:00pm under the Solar Canopy with Bughouse. Student campus acts, such as Ashchugger and Pronoia, and small local bands, such as WYDYDE, dominate the lineup to complement Spring Jam’s community feel.

This year also marks the return of the treasured Beer Tent after its absence in 2015. Other activities over the afternoon and evening include a Circus Show at 8:00pm, Pizza and Pub Trivia at 5:00pm, a Craft Fair from 3:00-6:00pm, and a Photo Booth on the side of the Robert Crown Center. Food options will be plentiful, with kettle corn, ice cream, and food trucks available, along with a Spring Fling Feast at 4:00pm on the Library Lawn.

Spring Jam is not a ticketed event; all you need to do to attend is show up.
